Wow, what a wild place we live! Sun and mid 80's one week, then, mid 40's with rain, wind, and snow. The rivers were pumping mud and running high. They are in great shape now. For those of you that thought it was to crappy to come out, you missed a good weekend. It should only improve from here on out. The warm weather brought out the flying Ants and Termites and the cold weather shut that down. We never really got the performance out of the Ants that we usually get. Once it cooled off they quit flying around as much.

Truckee River **** The Truckee river is looking really good right now. From Tahoe City to Floriston the flows are perfect, clarity is good, and the water temps are in the mid 40's and coming up. These cloudy days have produced some really nice hatches of BWO's and March Browns. Some of the bigger fish are keying on these bugs at the surface. Yes, some Dry Fly action between the rain events. The fish are in the slower sections of water and not super active, its still cool. All fish spotted working responded to a well presented dry. For dries try: Parachute Adams, Compara Duns, Sparkle Duns, March Browns, Quigley Cripples-16-14, and Stimulator 10-8. For nymphs try Copper John, Prince, Birdsnest, Haresear, caddis pupa, Little Yellow stones 18-14, and Stones, Green Drakes 10-8. Streamers 10-4.

Little Truckee River **-**** The LT has also been fishing well recently. These fish are educated and require a good approach and presentation. The presentation is the most important part right now regardless of the bug you have on. There are some nice fish spread out through the whole section between Boca and Stampede. The rainbows were spawning over the last two weeks in several spots. Beware of the redds! These fish are somewhat stressed and recovering from the act of spawning. If you catch one of these beaters, play it in quickly and let it go back to recovering. Dries try: Parachute adams, Sparkle Dun, Griffiths Gnat and E/C caddis 18-16. Nymphing is good Try Copper Johns, PT's, HBI's, Birdsnest, Glo Bugs, Prince 18-16, SJW's, and Midges.

Reservoirs*** Stampede, Boca, and Prosser are all filling right now and the fish are spreading out. There was some good action on Midges and Ants. The inlet area are producing some fish on steamers and nymphing. The callibeatis have shown themselves sporadically and the fish haven't noticed yet. For dries try: Parachute Adams, midges 20-14, and Ants 10. For Nymphs try: Pheasant Tail, birdsnest, and midges 20-14. Black or green size 10-8 streamers have taken some fish. Don't forget about the smallmouth here. They will eat the same bugs as trout.

High Country* I hear that you can get into Milton now but, I have tried it yet. Judging from the scene on the mountains around town there was some snow this weekend up high. The high country is still a few weeks out.

Saturday May 31st - Don't for get this weekend May 31st, I will be at Kiene's Fly shop in Sacramento giving a presentation and answering questions on the Truckee Area and Morrisons Rogue River Lodge where I guide Steelhead fishing in September and October. This season, at Morrisons, we will be offering a Steelhead Fly Fishing School in September. If you ever wanted to get a jump on an already elusive fish and increase your odds, this is the school to attend! I'll be able to answer questions at Kiene's on May 31st or go to the Morrisons website. Come by Kiene's and say hello it well be a great event.
