Fishing Report Archives

May 13, 2004
Very strange weather we are having up here first it's winter, then spring, then winter, and another spring, and yet another snow storm. Life in the mountains. Despite all of this the fishing overall has been good. It is still a bit early for dry fly action and nymphing or streamer fishing is the most productive. It's only going to get better. This is a great time of the year to take advantage of the area before the summer rush. There are few people out and most restaurants are offering 2 for 1 specials! Get out and enjoy the fishing.

High Country Lakes and Streams

Still too early. I keep you posted.

Local Lakes and Reservoirs

Stampede** My scout report the fishing as fair with the Davies Creek Arm being the most consistent right now. Dries: Midges and Callibeatis 18-14, Quigley Cripples 16-14. Nymphs: PT's, Midges, 18-14. Streamers 10-4.

Boca*** The inlet is fishing good right now lots of stuff being washed down the Little Truckee. I had a great evening of dry fly fishing a week ago it didn't seem to matter much what you tossed at them. Dries: Parachute Adams, Grittiths Gnat, Sparkle Dun, and Cripples 18-14. Under the indicator: Copper John's, AP's, PT's, Glo Bug, and Birdsnest did the trick.

Prosser Haven't fished it yet but should be similar two Stampede and Boca. Either inlet will have some fish.

Local Rivers and Streams

Truckee River** The flow through town is good (212 cfs) very fishable. Its a little early yet we are still in a runoff scenario and it clouds up during warm afternoons, less each week. There is a BWO hatch around mid afternoon and I have only heard of limited dry fly success with that. I have had one report of 2 nice fish on a Stimulator. Don't bother with the water below Boca it still too big and cold. Dries: Parachute Adams, Compara Duns, Sparkle Duns, E/C Caddis, Quigley Cripples, 18-14, and Stimulator 10-8. Nymphs are the best bet, however, it is buffet time down there. Copper John, Prince, Birdsnest, Caddis Pupa, Little yellow Stone 18-14, Stones, Green Drakes 10-8. Streamers in 10-4 are worth a try as well.

Little Truckee River*** You should of been here yesterday applies right now. Was fishing great at 245 cfs, then was bumped to 524 on Monday and is still there. Still very fishable concentrate on the slower sections and be careful wading now. The fish are healthy use good tippet and leaders. Most fish have been between 14-20 inches with a couple at 22". Yahoo! Not much surface activity yet. Nymphs: Copper Johns, HBI's, Birdsnest, Glo Bug 18-16, SJW and Green Drake 10-8.

See you on the River

Brian
