Fly Fishing Reports - Archives

October 28, 2004
As I sit down to write this we are having one of the snowiest Octobers in decades and its snowing again. The many of the local ski areas are opening this weekend with excellent coverage and conditions. Since I am a ski patroller at Alpine Meadows I will be returning to my winter job a far bit earlier than usual and in a new position. Recently, I was promoted to Assistant Patrol Manager. The new job comes with greater responsibly and greater demand on my time. My availability to guide clients during the winter months is going to be reduced, should you be interested in my services during November-April advanced reservations are required. I am always available to answer questions, give a fishing report of the local waters, or just talk fishing please send me an e-mail or give me a call.

Thanks to all you who fished with me this past summer. We had some great fun and managed to catch a few fish! I couldn't ask for a better summer job and it wouldn't have been possible without you the customer. I look forward to seeing you again next season.

High County Lakes and Streams
I rode my snowmobile in the Jackson Meadows and Meadow Lake areas yesterday there is 2-4 feet of snow on the ground making a snowmobile the best way to get around out there. You would probably have the place to yourself there was only two other sets of tracks heading to Jackson Meadows.

Local Reservoirs **
Boca, Prosser, and Stampede. The biggest problem here is getting around the ground is wet and muddy so you may want to consider walking or skiing into the fishing sites. The best areas are at the inlets were the Kokanee and Browns are starting to spawn. Glo bugs, eggsucking leaches, and woolly buggers are a good choice.

Truckee River**/***
The Truckee between town and stateline has been fair to good. Several large fish have been landed mostly with nymphs and streamers. There is also an afternoon hatch with a few fish on small mayfly patterns.

Little Truckee River***
The Little Truckee has been good. The spawning Kokanee are spread throughout the stream and nymphing with glo bugs has been very effective. Here too there is an afternoon hatch of small BWO's.

Pyramid Lake**
Pyramid has been fishing fair. It should improve as the weather gets cooler. The key here is to move allot. If your not getting a grab try a different beach. There are large amounts of baitfish around try to locate one and strip minnow patterns around this area.
