Fly Fishing Reports - Archives

May 19, 2006

Truckee ** The river below town is high and off color. Still managed to pickup a few fish working the slow edges and seams. Above town is very fishable but, the fish are very spread out. Nymphing and streamers are ticket here. Princes, stones, woolly buggers, glo bugs, and San Juan Worms have accounted for the fish that I have seen landed. Be careful were you wade! Check the flow on my Venues page before you go, when they start dumping Tahoe the fishing in the upper river, will change.

Little Truckee **to *** The inlet area here continues to be the most consistent. One of my friends even landed a nice Bow on a dry here the other day. The water is clear, high and fast. Be careful where you wade! As with the Big river, nymphing with lots of lead is going to be the best tactic. The smaller nymphs like 16-18 PT's , HBI's, Birdnests, and Haresear's with glo bugs and SJW's will produce. If your sneaky you can catch fish resting on the edge and sight fish to them.

Prosser, Boca, and Stampede *** The Boca dam is closed to vehicle traffic until further notice. All the waters are warming up and so are the fish. The inlets have all been producing fish. Smallmouth Bass, Rainbows, and Browns are all cruising the shoreline and shallows. The Carpenter Ants are out and could be a good dry fly here. Stripping streamers has been the best tactic. Hanging a midge and nymph under an indicator will work as well. As you driving around watch out for the mud it is wet and sticky.

See you on the water

Brian
