Fly Fishing Reports - Archives
|
July 11, 2006
It's been a busy month around here. The fishing has picked up on the Truckee, the High Country is coming into shape, and the fish on the Little Truckee are moody. The best dry fly action has been on the North Yuba. Consistent all day. If your not having any luck try a different spot or river. Check the flows on the Fishing-Venues page before you go so your not surprised.
High Country Lakes and Streams**-***
The water is coming down nicely and most locations fishing pretty good. Dries:Para Adams 14-16, Elk Hair Caddis 14-16, E/C Caddis-16 try handing a little nymph under these when the sun is high in the sky. Caddis Pupa, PT, Copper John 14-18.
Truckee River**-*** Its up, its down, its flooding, its almost dry! The watermaster is really made some dramatic changes over the last couple of weeks. The fishing has been great at times especially the evening. There are a ton of Caddis and Little Yellow stones out and about, as well as various Mayflies. Never really saw a bunch of drakes this year. Nymphing during the day and dry fly fishing the evenings have been the best tactics and probably will continue to be. Dries: Para Adams 12-20, Bivisable Dun 12-20, Spinners 12-16, Elk Hair Caddis-16, E/C Caddis 14-16, Yellow Sallies 14, and Stimulators 10-16. Nymphs: Copper Johns 14-16, Stones 8-14, PT 12-16, Caddis Pupa 14-16 and SJW's.
Little Truckee** The flows here has been up and down as well. At times the LT has been very crowded, these fish have seen some action and are very selective. You may have to try several flies and tactics to get them to eat and it may not work in the next hole. The fish seem to be more willing in the morning but, have eaten all day as well. They are in great shape and very scrappy fighters. No one pattern is working over another. Try mayfly and caddis dries and nymphs 16-22
North Yuba*** Great dry fly action all day for fish in the 6 to 12 range. They would probably eat anything presented well but, caddis patters and stimulators 12-16 range were working so well I didn't try anything else.
Local Reservoirs** Boca and Prosser have slowed down for trout and the smallmouth are now biting. They don't seem to care about the pattern if it looks like food they eat it. The callibeatis are still happening at Stampede. The morning has been good and starting to slow down a bit. Nymphs under and indicator like Flashback PT's 14-16, Callibeatis nymphs 14-16, and Birdnest 14-16 have been the ticket. On the surface gray spinners and para adams 14 are working just fine.
See you on the water,
Brian |
