Fly Fishing Report - Archives

December 10, 2006

Time to put another fishing season in the books. I have made the transition to skiing full-time now. Still waiting for more natural snow to open the upper mountain. And, once it gets here, then everyone will wish it was gone.

Last season here was a pretty good year around the area. With all the water there where fish holding in place longer than they would normally. The Truckee was it's usually grumpy river especially when the water master ramped it up for the Fourth of July weekend. It started fishing better later in the summer. The Little Truckee was hot from day one all the way to the end of the season. The fish seem to get smarter and bigger there each season. Some of the smaller streams didn't come into shape until much later this year and had some pretty decent size fish hanging around. Now that I have a new lake boat, I spent a little more time on Prosser and Stampede. They proved to be worthy trips.

As things slowed down this fall I transitioned up to Morrisons Lodge on the Rogue River to guide a few steelhead trips. What was only few trips worked out to be the whole month of October for me guiding. The steelhead were pretty cooperative.

Sounds like there is some pretty big changes coming for next season. We may now have year-round angling on the Truckee and some of the its Tributaries. We'll have to see how that pays out.

I had a pretty good time this season and I hope you did too. I look forward to seeing you next season.

Happy Holidays

Brian Slusser
