Tahoe Fly Fishing Report Archives

Friday April 4th, 2008

Wow, its been a pretty good ski season this year consistent snow conditions for weeks in a row. The sun has been out, temps are up, and the snow is starting to melt. Yeah, it time to start fishing again. Most of the access from Stateline up to Glenshire drive has melted out. There are still a few patches but, those will be gone by next week. The road out to Boca and the Little Truckee is also melting out. Here, there are still some big patches of compact snow and ice and they may take a while to melt out. Spring is here and things are going to steadily improve.

The snow stats at Alpine Meadows shows that the water content of the snowpack is at 83%. This should mean another early season so start to plan accordingly. May and early June could be really good again this year barring any major storm event.

Truckee River / Winter Season
Trout Creek to Statline

The Truckee is fishing fair throughout the Winter section. There has been a few fish taken on dries but, mostly, nymphing has been the ticket. There are March Browns, Bwo's, Stones, and Midges making up the menu. As they days heat up the runoff from the side creeks starts to color the water by afternoon. Check the weather and the flows before you head out there are some big runoff days ahead. Shouldn't be for long this season.

Little Truckee River / Winter Season
Between Boca and Stampede

The access to the LT is still a bit snowing but rapidly improving. From my last visit Midges and Stones seem to be the predominate bugs. Nymphing was the ticket early in the day then mid-afternoon the stones started coming off and the fish were looking up for them. The LT should be pretty good for the next few weeks.

See you on the water,

Brian
