Tahoe Fly Fishing Report Archives
|
Thursday, October 29th, 2009
Hello, if your wondering where my report has been well, I have been guiding steelhead fly fishing on the Rogue River and fishing my way back to the Truckee. The Steelheading on the Rogue has been good with 1-3 adults landed days. The most hook ups for my guests has come using the wet fly swing. The grab is where its at. The Klamath below Iron Gate is fishing well too. Many more Half-pounders here at the moment than adults. Very busy and lots of action on the swing. Found more and bigger adults further down. I am heading for the Trinity next and am very excited to check it out because I have not been there to fish.
The fishing in the Truckee area has been good. Fish the warmer part of the day. Midges, BWO's, October Caddis, and Streamers are all good bets. The fall has produced some of the better sight fishing of the season.
For my friends in SoCal
Save the date! I will be attending Bob Marriotts Fly Fishing Fair in Fullerton California November 21st and 22nd. Stop by, say Hi, and we can set up your next trip with me.
Truckee Area Rivers
Flows here are very low. Click here to check the flows, they are some of the lowest flows for some time. The fishing should be concentrated in the deeper pools and runs. For the Truckee this means fishing below Boca to Stateline. The Little Truckee is at its normal low flow and is its typical tough fishing.
Truckee Area Lakes
The lakes are also very low. This is my favorite time to fish the local reservoirs. Big fish are cruising around looking for their next meal. Walking the shoreline throwing a streamer is the way to go. A word of caution, the pools are quite low and the banks are soft and muddy, very easy to get really stuck! Walking a little won't kill you and is actual as good way to fish these impoundments hitting the points, drop offs, and coves.
For those looking for guide service I have plenty of open days until Nov 16th. The Upper Klamath for steelhead would be my first choice. Stalking the reservoirs in the Truckee area for big Bows and Browns, is my second.
Look forward to seeing you on the river,
Brian
