Since the last flyfishing report the water has warmed up a touch and the fish are showing signs of waking up. Currently, its snowing again! The weather report for Memorial Day Weekend is favorable for warmth and sun. With the new snow expect the runoff into the Truckee to be a little heavier this weekend. The reservoirs and the tailwater of the Little Truckee are the place to be should the Truckee get off color.
High Country Lakes and Streams
Still a few weeks out.
Lakes and Reservoirs**
Martis is starting to come to life. There was a nice evening rise to a smaller midge size 16-18 and Callibeatis size 14-16. Try the dam end if the wind is blowing. Stampede and Boca are still producing around the inlets small streamers size 10, Damsels 10-12 and Flashback PT 12-14. Midges are also worth a try.
Rivers and Streams**
The Truckee River* is at a very fishable flow, has good clarity, and the temp is up a few degrees. The is a nice BWO hatch in the afternoon but, few fish are looking up. Nymphing is still your best bet. Prince sizes 10-12, Birdsnest 10-16, Flashback PT 14-16, stones 8-14, and streamers. You'll need to bonk the fish on the head here they are not moving far to take something.
The Little Truckee*** offers the best chance to stick a few fish. My assistant Taped a 20"+ Brown last week and I landed two more over 18". The special regulations have sure helped this river. A few fish are working a mid-day BWO hatch. Adams, BWO, and Quigley Cripple size 16-18, BH Brassie size 18, Flashback PT 16-18, Prince nymph and Haresear 10-12. Check the current breaks and deeper runs.
See you on the river.
