Fishing Report Archives
August 28, 2002
We are in another cool down which has kept the fishing in the area good throughout most of the day. Mid afternoon is still a dead period on the Truckee. For all waters the fish are spooky. Use stealth tactics to increase your chances. Quiet approach, make the first few casts count, and switch to smaller flies(20's) and tippet 6x or 7x. I had clients on several 20" plus fish last week kind of surprised me more then them. The bulk of the hatches are over and fish are very opportunistic if not spooked into Nevada and will take a properly presented dry fly. I went out and fished the dam at Stampede and landed several nice Smallmouth Bass. Friends fishing the inlet arms say the fishing is fair overall. I still haven't bothered with Boca. The Labor Day weekend should be good.

Truckee River ***
Some caddis and mayflies around late evening and lots of hoppers hopping. Try prospecting with an attractor dry and dropper.

Little Truckee **
Tough fishing here. Small flies, fine tippet, and a gentle presentation or don't waste your time.

N. Yuba **
The water is getting low concentrating the fish in the deeper pockets and pools. Still many willing little fish. A stealth approach with attractor dries is great fun.

Milton Reservoir **
The fish are near the inlet and getting smarter by the day. Long leaders, very small flies, and a very good presentation are needed to routinely fool these fish callibeatis, midges, and ants are the best bet. Try a Woolly Bugger deep during the midday slowdown.

Prossor and Stampede Reservoirs **
The Smallies are willing to take most Woolly Buggers and Clousers that you run by them. The Rainbows and Browns are being a bit more selective taking midge and callibeatis patterns down deep.

See you out on the water this weekend. Be stealth!
Brian
