It's shaping up to be a good Memorial Day Weekend. Overall the fishing is good, hot sometimes and dead others. Most areas are open and there are fish to be caught. Expect to find a crowd out there this weekend give each other a little respect and have a good time.
High Country Lakes and Streams
The road to Jackson Meadows Milton Reservoirs is open. There is still plenty of snow on north slopes above 6500' so some areas are still out of reach. The streams are about the right flow and still cold. Heavy rain or hot weather could cause them to blowout.
Milton** Very green there this time of year. Callibeatis and Midges are on the menu here right now. When the wind isn't howling the fish were eating emergers of both insects. Didn't have any luck with my streamers but, that doesn't mean you won't. Dries try Parachute adams, Bivisable Dun, Quigley Cripples and Griffiths Gnats 18-14. Nymphs try Flashback PT and Haresear, Brassie, and midge pupa 18-14. Streamers try the Woolly Bugger or Stanley Streamer 8-6
Local Lakes and Reservoirs
Not much has changed from last report.
Boca*** is still fishing well at the inlet area and by the campground. Stampede** has not changed much either. A few warm days and no wind and this could heat up. There is a decent midge hatch midmorning.
Prosser** has been fishing better and I've heard of a few bass being taken off the dam end of the reservoir. Not a lot of dry fly action yet. Nymphs Try: PT's, Blood midge pupa, AP's, Flashback PT's and Haresears 16-12, and Dragon Fly nymphs. Streamers Woolly Buggers and Flashy Buggers 10-4.
Local Rivers and Streams
At this time the flows have been the same for the last couple of weeks. This could change.
Truckee River** The flow is a very fishable 212 cfs through town and too big below Boca inflow. The temperature has been 53-54, still a little cool. Taped an 18" rainbow my first and only fish on the river so far. There is a nice afternoon BWO hatch and a few folks have been lucky enough to see some fish working it. Dries: Parachute Adams, Compara Duns, Sparkle Duns, E/C caddis, Quigley Cripples-14, and Stimulator 10-8. Nymphs are the best bet try Copper John, Prince, Birdsnest, Haresear, caddis pupa, Little Yellow stones 18-14, and Stones and Green Drakes 10-8. Streamers 10-4.
Little Truckee River*** Still around 525 which makes wading difficult. Watch your step! Fishing very good this is the best bet. This will be a busy area, respect each other, use some manners, and leave your attitude at home! Relax. Be on the lookout for fish working the caddis and BWO's. Dries try: Parachute adams, Sparkle Dun, and E/C caddis 18-16. Nymphing is good Try Copper Johns, PT's, HBI's, Birdsnest, Glo Bugs, Prince 18-16, SJW's and Green Drake 10-8.
That should do it. Enjoy the weekend and I'll see you on the water.
