Fly fishing Report Archives
|
July 22, 2004
Just finished moving into a new house with garage. Finally, a place to keep all my gear in one spot. The fishing has been holding up quite well. I have not been to any of the High Country Lakes and Streams*** for quite a while. My scouts tell me the streams are about prefect lots of little brookies.
The Local Reservoirs **/*** are starting to slow in the trout department but, the smallmouth bass are still hitting pretty much anything that you throw at em. The callibeatis are still around and you can find fish working them in the shallower areas.
Fishing on the Little Truckee River*** between Boca and Stampede is fishing good. The water has been ramped up to around 200 cfs and the fish seem to like it a lot. The PMD's that are left are about a size 16 and well as the caddis that are fluttering around in the evening. Grasshoppers should be a factor here shortly.
The Truckee River** is fishing good early and late. Forget the mid-day, water temps are anywhere from 67-70, too warm, by noon. Most of the major bug activity is over and the smaller insects are starting to emerge you'll have to watch carefully. A dry with a dropper is a good technique here right now. A size sixteen green caddis pupa and Elk hair dry have been working well. For a dropper try smaller stones, little yellow stones, and micro mayflies.
I am booking steelhead trips on the Rogue River for September and October for more information check out the trips page. Good fun!
See you on the river
