I guess the fishing has been pretty good since I haven't updated the report in over a month. Sorry about that. Yes, the fishing has been good dispite the heat of the last week the fish were eatin'. The weather has cooled a bit and brought the water temps back down a few degrees. Took a few late afternoon temps that were 73 degrees on the Truckee but their down to the low 60's. Only managed a few trips for bass on the reservoirs lately mostly fishing the Truckee and Little Truckee. I did manage a trip over to the North Yuba and had excellent fishing throughout the day.
I am taking reservations for Steelhead fishing trips on the Rogue River in Southern Oregon. September and October are fly fishing only months on the Upper Rogue. There are already a large number of fish in the upper river and now is the time to target them.
High Country Lakes & streams*** to ****
The upper elevation lakes and streams are fishing good to excellent. Fished a few of the smaller creeks again last week and had a blast. A Parachute Adams and E/C Caddis were all we needed to keep us busy. Some of the smaller streams are starting to get a little thin so look for the deeper pools.
Truckee River ** to *** The water at times has been very warm but over the last few days with the thunder storms it has cooled greatly. Fishing in the morning and late in the evening has been the best. Not a great amount of dry fly action but have managed to get a few fish to come up to big attractor patterns. High Sticking in the pocket water has also been good as the fish move into the more oxygenated water during the day. There is allot of stonefly shucks on the rocks the last few days as well. For dry fly action try: Parachute Adams14-10, Stimulator 10-6, Elk Hair Caddis 16-10, Quigley Cripples 14-10, and E/C caddis. For nymphs try: Copper John 14-10, Hairsear 14-12, Flashback PT 14-10, Princes 14-10, Golden Stones 10-6, and Woolly Buggers 10-6.
Little Truckee River *** The fish here are educated. Be prepared to change flies allot. These fish will only give you one or two chances, stealth and good presentations will pay off. The fish are working pretty much all day. For dries: PMD's 16-18, BWO's 20-16, cripples 20-16, Sparkle Duns 20-16, Spinners 18-14, caddis 18-16, Parachute Adams 18-10, Griffiths Gnat 20-18, and Palamino Midge 22-20. For nymphs try: Haresear 18-14, PT's 20-10, HBI's 16-14, Birdsnest 18-16, Copper Johns 20-16 and Brassies 20-16..
Prosser **, Boca **, and Stampede ** Haven't been fishing on the lakes too muck except for smallmouth and they are always hungry. Wouldn't be bad to try morning or evening for rising fish. Trolling or stripping a streamer could be productive as well. For dries try: Martis Midge 16-14, Griffiths Gnat 16-14, Parachute Adams 16-12, Spinners 16-14, Cripples 16-12, and Ants 10. For nymphs and Streamers try: Haresears 14-12, PT's 14-12, Brassie 14-12, Midge Pupa 16-12, Copper Johns 16-12, Clouser Minnows 10-6, and Woolly Buggers 10-6.
See you on the water,
