Fly Fishing Reports - Archives

April 25, 2006
The rivers and streams in our area have been closed and will open this weekend. Hooray! It's has been a late winter around here and spring has yet to show up. The water will be high and cold on all of the rivers and streams. So far, on my scouting missions, all waters are running clear. That could change with a rain event or week of heat. Access around the reservoirs could be a problem, the ground is very wet, muddy, and hasn't dried out much. You could get very stuck watch were you go! The road From Hobart Mills to Stampede was very muddy as of this weekend.

Despite the excess water there are still some areas to dust off the rod and give it a go. For the river nymphing and streamers are the way to go. Big and Heavy. Stoneflies, Copper Johns, and Beadhead Princes to start and for streamers a Beadhead Crystal Bugger is a good choice.

On the reservoirs nymphing and streamers as well and fish were there is water running in, which is pretty much everywhere. Stampede and Boca are pretty much full and Prosser looks to be two thirds full. Working the shoreline with a Woolly Bugger to stay warm or midges under and indicator will get some takes.

For those that want to travel a bit more, Pyramid Lake Nevada is an option. It has been getting better as the weather warms up and will continue to improve. Stripping streamers and fishing under and indicator are both productive. The water is coming up and some places are harder to get to than the last couple of seasons.

The early season is a great time to work on your skills, give me a call and we can put a trip together.

See you on the River,

Brian
