Tahoe Fly Fishing Report Archives

The fishing is starting to heat up in our area and giving us more opportunities to catch a wild fish. The past week has been cold and rainy which put a damper on the fishing. Overall, water temps were down 5 degree from the previous week. Good News! The temps are slowly coming back up and the fish have responded. The lakes are fishing well and some of the little creeks are doing good as well. The Truckee River down near the is really good. The Drakes have been spotted and I give them another week to start here in the Glenshire Drive area. All of the bugs are present and ready to hatch.
I have been getting a fair amount of calls so don't wait around too long, it is prime time! Don't forget about the fall steelhead fishing on the Rogue River in Oregon. These are great tips run through Morrisons Rogue River Lodge 1-800-826-1963. Now is the time to book a prime slot for summer run steelies.
Truckee River **-**** The Truckee is fishing great lower down towards Floriston and the border. Green Drakes are out down there and working there way up river. Smaller BWO's, Caddis, and Little Yellow Stones are on the diet. High sticking tight to your rig is key the takes are quick. In the evening position yourself so the glare is not as bad and fish the dries.
Little Truckee River *** The LT is not on my favorites list at the moment. The combination of low water and constant pressure has really made these fish tough to dupe. If you want a challenge then this is the place. Be prepared for rejection. Stealth is key and well as some small bugs, mayflies and midges.
North Yuba *** The N. Yuba is really good and there is probably very few anglers here to contend with. The Dogwood trees are blooming so it is great for that alone. Big attractor flies like Royal Wluff, Stimulators, and Ants should do the trick. Dry fly paradise.
b Have still not made it to Milton yet. However, it has fish well for several friends of mine. Small midges and mayflies have been the ticket. Fishing from a tube or pram is not necessary walking the shore is productive as well.
Prosser, Boca, Stampede *** Stampede has been the best of the three with lots of Smallmouth being caught in the Davies CK area. Oh, and some are over 4 pounds! Slow stripping mayfly nymphs and streamers like Burks aggravator get the job done on these guys. Check the Saghen and Little Truckee arms for Blood Midges and Calibeatis.
See you on the water,
Brian
