Tahoe Fly Fishing Report Archives
|
Tuesday, June 1, 2010
It seems as though spring has finally arrived here in the Truckee Area. The weather reports have made it sound worse than it is. All of the flowers and trees are blooming and the grass is greening up as well. The high country lakes and streams are still pretty high and getting out past Webber Lake will take another week or two. Around Truckee all of the access is open with a few spots of mud. East of Truckee on I-80 the construction is going to mess with the access for the summer so plan for that if you are heading down to stateline to fish. My observation is that the bugs are all a week or more behind schedule but, when it warms up here it is going to bust loose. Look for the big Ants here very soon. Check the flows on my Venues Page.
Truckee** The big river is doing fine. Flows and clarity from the River Ranch down past Hirschdale are really nice. Most of the people I've talked with are not catching a lot at this time but the ones they are landing are Big and Strong. Many of them over 20". During the mid-day there has been a nice hatch of BWO's and March Browns. The occasional fish is working them but, most action is from nymphing and streamers. Water temps are in the upper 40's to low 50's.
Little Truckee* The Little Truckee is tough. Flows are going down and I speculate to help fill Stampede Reservoir which is low. This combined with lots of fishing pressure and the fish being post spawn has made for some difficult fishing. There have been some good moments and as the fish continue to heal up the fishing should improve. Give it a week or two. There has been a nice BWO hatch mid-day here as well. There are fish looking up here they just want a perfect drift, or a dozen perfect drifts. Water temps are in the high 40's. Going to have to go small here.
Prosser** This reservoir is filling up nicely. Both Alder Creek and Prosser Creek are up and flowing hard. Midges and March Browns are hatching in the inlet areas and the fish are on them when the wind is down. A few bass are being caught and that will improve as the temps go up. Surface temps are in the mid 50's.
Boca** Boca is very similar to Prosser Reservoir, maybe a little lower. The inlet area here has been good and the DFG planted it a couple of weeks ago. Lots of midges here and a few BWO's drifting in from the LT.
Stampede** I haven't been here yet. The reports I have gotten are from the trolling guys and they are doing well on the Kokanee and Macs. Davies Creek arm is worth a look. The area is drying out but, watch out for the Mud! The shoreline is down a bit still and it has been a wet spring. Check it out before driving to close.
Higher Lakes and streams A couple of weeks or more.
Now would be a good time to try a Stillwater Trip from my Boat!
See you on the water,
Brian |
