Fishing Report August 28th, 2014

While it is good to be gone it is also nice to be home.  Really, besides the flows not much has changed.  Fish are there and eating.  The thunderstorms and cool nights have kept things in good shape.  If you like to fish with dries this is the time.

Truckee River *** The flows in town are 71 cfs and at Boca 173 cfs.  The water temps have been 58-60 in the mornings and spiking up 66-68 by mid-afternoon.  Dries and dry dropper rigs are doing quite well.  Noticed lots of small caddis and mayflies out and about.  For dries Thalkens Double Dutch 8-10, Stimiulater 10-16, Quigley Cripples 16–18, Caddis 14-16, E/C Caddis 14-16, and Parachut Adams 16-18. For nymphs  PT 12-16, Birdsnest 12-16, Mirco May 16-18, Soft Hackles 14-16, Stones 10-16, Midges 16-18, SJW’s, Fox Poopah 14-16, Prince 10-14,  and Haresear 10-16.

Little Truckee**-***  I finally went out there for a few hours and caught a couple fish.  Flows are 41 cfs and temps at Upper Lot were 60 at noon.  Kinda warm for this ditch.   You will need some stealth here cause the fish are super spooky.  Try sight fishing to specific fish no need to blind cast your just getting excercise.  The first three casts are the best chance the it will be time change flies and rest the fish.  After about 15 changes you might get a grab.  Easier to move to a different fish.  For flies try smaller mayfly and midges 16-22.

North Yuba***  Great dry fly action on Caddis, Mayflies, and small Stones.  Conditions good here as well worth a look with the little rod!

Prosser and Stampede**-*** Smallmouth fishing continues to be decent at both reservoirs.  Nymphs under the indicator have been the ticket lately.  Same stuff that your using on the Truckee.  A nod to the red copper john by a hair.

There are still openings for this up coming weekend.

Have a good Labor Day Weekend,
