Fishing Report February 11, 2018

Well, winter has yet to really show up.  If  you were outside today you might disagree, cold and windy with some light snow flurries that reminded me its not spring yet.  Not to worry spring will be here again in a few days.  Fishing on the Truckee and Little Truckee has been good.  Lots of Little Winter Stones, Midges, Sqwallas, and BWO’s out and about.  So are the anglers!  This time of year go skiing on the groomers in the morning and head to the river in the afternoon.  With some luck you might even see some heads poking out.

Remember, we are in “Winter Regulations” mode.  This means sections of rivers that are open for fishing are: the Truckee from Trout Creek to the state line and the Little Truckee between Boca and Stampede.  Winter regulations on both rivers  are artificial lures, barbless hooks, and zero kill.  The reservoirs are open year-round with general trout regulations.

Truckee River **-***  The flows in Town are 90cfs and at Boca 361cfs.  Mid-day water temps have been 40-41.  I was surprised by the number of rising fish this last week!  Coming up for Sqwallas 10, BWO’s 16-18, Little Winter Stones16, and Midges 18-22.  No need to hit it early mid to late afternoon has been perfect and when this front passes in a couple days we will be back at it.

Little Truckee **-***  The flows here are at 80cfs and water temps are in the low 40’s.  The same bugs are hatching here as on the Truckee.  Overcast days might bright out more BWO’s.

Proser, Boca, and Stampede**  All are open year-round.  With the lack of snow on the ground all three are accessible  by car.  However, be aware of the mud and stay on the dry roads and away from the shore so as not to get stuck.  Working the shore with a streamer on a sinking line is a pretty good bet.

It is not too early to start planning your summer trips.  Contact me to set up your summer adventure.

See you on the water,
