Fishing Report January 18th, 2015

Happy New Year!  Been a while since the last report.  We got off to a great start at Alpine with the skiing through the holidays and now need some more snow. It has been very cold at times and we have had some very nice periods here as well.  Water temps are pretty cool right now.  I would suggest a late breakfast or rigging groomers at the ski hill before getting out to fish the heat of the day.  Access is good just a little mud.

We are currently in the winter fishing regulations mode.  And that is catch and release only on the Truckee River from Trout Creek to the Nevada Border.  And, the same goes for the Little Truckee River between Boca and Stampede.  The local reservoirs, Prossor, Boca, and Stampede are open year-round.

Truckee River  Water temps here mid-day are at 40 degrees and there is 217 cfs at Boca.  Access is good just a little muddy in some parking spots.  Fishing is slow but, they can be caught.  Look for fish to be in the slower water at this time of year.  Dry Dropper rigs and Deep Nymphing in the bigger holes with mostly small Midges 18-22 and BWO’s 18-20.

Little Truckee River  Water temps here are 40 degrees and the flow is 157 cfs.   Access here is good at this time the road is bare and dry.   Saw no fish working on top with only Midges out and about here.  Nymphing is the way to go here with small Midges 18-22 and  Mayfly patterns 18-20.

Prosser and Boca  Prosser is completely frozen at this time.  Boca is open at the inlet area.  The amount of open water varies with how cold it gets at night.  Some days it is pretty open.

Look forward to seeing you this season, Brian
