Fishing Report May 31, 2017

This had to be the nicest Memorial Day Weekend in a number of years.  Hope you got out and celebrated.  Thank you to those that served so that I can continue to have the best job ever!

The conditions are starting to change as the tailwaters have already started to drop and are supposed to drop some more.  The Truckee river flow has come down some as well.  Fishing remains good for those willing to put in the time.  Fat, healthy Rainbows and Browns are being caught.  The Stillwaters are fishing pretty good as well.

Truckee River **-*** The flows in Town are 1,590cfs and at Boca 2,710cfs.  Afternoon water temps are bumping 55 degrees.  Lots of food in the water column don’t expect the fish to move too far to eat.  Again Nymphing is producing and, if your bored, Throw a streamer or two.  Have not seen enough fish feeding on the surface to warrant fishing dries.  For Nymphing, again not much has changed, try Pat’s Rubber legs 8-10, Mercer’s Poxyback Golden Stone 8-10, Flashback PT 12-14, SJW, Haresear 10-14, Birdsnest 10-14, and Prince Nymphs 8-10.  For Streamers Woolley Buggers  green and black 4-10 and Sculpin patterns in green and tan 4-8.

Little Truckee River ** The flows were just dropped this morning to 162cfs and expected to drop more in the near future.  Probably going to be tough while the fish climatize to the new flows.  Nymphing here is the most productive technique.  Try Pats Rubber Legs 10, Copper Johns 10-16, Micro May 16-18, SJW’s, Glo Bugs,  Pheasant tails 14-18,  Flashback PT’s 14-18, Haresears 12-16, and Princes 10-16.  Streamers are worth a try as well.

Also, many fish just spawned over the last couple weeks please stay off the Redds!  That is the clean gravel holes that it looks like someone dug.  The future fish are in there.

Prosser, Boca, Stampede ***  Prosser is still a ways out but filling.  Boca and Stampede inlet areas are fishing well.  Noticed some mid-day Callibeatis popping on Stampede.  But, no fish on the surface yet.  Nymphing and Streamers on a sinking line are both working pretty well.  Some Super solid fish being hooked up!

Interested in getting better understanding of fly fishing, take one of my classes.  I will custom taylor a class for you or your group. Contact me a we will work out the details that fit your schedule.

See you on the water,

Brian
