Fishing Report November 19, 2014

Starting the transition from Fishing to Skiing.  The weather is slowly changing and getting colder.  Saturday was the last day of the regular fishing season and we are now into the winter regulations until the last Saturday of April 2015.  Remember it is catch and release only on the Truckee River from Trout Creek to the Nevada Border.  And, the same goes for the Little Truckee River between Boca and Stampede.  The local reservoirs, Prossor, Boca, and Stampede are open year-round.

Truckee River ** The flows at Boca are 49cfs and the water temps have been in the mid to low 40′s.  Morning temps have been in the teens with some ice forming along the edges of the river.  Time to fish the heat of the day as the fish have slowed down with the colder  temps.  Nymphing with smaller Mayflies and Midges will be the best bet now.  There may be some BWO’s hatching on the warmer overcast days with fish eating on the surface.  That would be the exception and our dry fly fishing may be done here until early spring next year.

Little Truckee River ** The flows here are at an ultra low 32cfs and the temps are also in the low to mid 40′s.  As with the Truckee you may catch a hatch of BWO’s  and/or Midges on the overcast days.  Probably a better chance at winter dry fly action here than on the Big T.  Access is good at this time.

Those of you looking for a great holiday gift I do sell gift certificates.  If you have question about want to get the fisher person in you world drop me a line and maybe I can help with fresh idea for them.

Happy Holidays, Brian
