Fishing Report September 20, 2012

How about this weather!  Just about prefect for fly fishing, cool nights and warm days.  Fishing on the Truckee is very good right now.  The crowds are gone and you can pretty much take you pick of where to fish.  Since the last report the flows have been lowered on the Truckee out of Lake Tahoe, Prosser Creek, and the Little Truckee.  The flows have been upped on the LT into the Truckee at Boca keeping it at around 500cfs.  The morning water temps are 57-58 degrees and warming to 60 by noon.  Just prefect conditions.  No reason not to be up here fly fishing cause before you know it will be done.

Truckee River***  The Truckee is fishing really good.  With the drop in flows it is basically two different rivers.  Tahoe City to Boca around 150cfs and Boca to the Statline about 500cfs.  The upper strech is best fished with dry and dry dropper rigs.  The fish are still looking up to Caddis, Mayflies, and small Stones 14-20.  While the lower strech is  better suited to nymphing techniques the Dry dropper set-up works well here too.

Since my last report I have made a trip to Alaska and managed to wrangle with some pretty nice fish.  Fished the Kenai Pennisula for Rainbows, Steelhead, Dolly Varden, Salmon, and Halibut.  Had a great time and saw plenty of Moose and Brown Bears.  Check out some photos on the facebook page.

See you on the water,
