Fly Fishing Report June 17, 2017

A very nice week of weather is in store for us here in the Truckee/Tahoe area.  Water conditions have come down a bit but will probably rise some do to the heat and fresh snow in the mountains this past Monday.  Some of the roads are starting to open up and I will check out access and fishing as time permits.

Lately, I have been busting out the Tenkara rods for something different.  The Tenkara rods have been a ton of fun and have lots of flexibility for use with other styles of Fly Fishing.  I am now offering Tenkara Fly Fishing as a product option.  Give it a try.

I have some open dates coming up next week.   Ants are out Lets fish!

Truckee River**-***  The flows in Town are 1,540cfs and at Boca 2,330cfs with afternoon water temp getting to the mid-fifties again.  Some more Bugs out and about but no fish on them yet.   Very nice fish are still being caught in these flows.  Indicators and Streamers have been the most effective techniques.  Try Pats Rubber Legs 10, Poxyback Golden Stones 8-10, Copper Johns 10-16, Micro May 16-18, SJW’s, Pheasant tails 14-18,  Flashback PT’s 14-18, Haresears 12-16, and Princes 10-16.  Streamers in green, white, and black have all worked.

Little Truckee***  The flows on the LT are 417cfs and quite fishable.  Small BWO’s hatching mid-day with a little interest from fish still and nymphing game here.  Fish are wising up so adjust your tactics.  May have to take off the indicator.  Nymphing and streamers are the game here as well.Try Pats Rubber Legs 10, Copper Johns 10-16, Micro May 16-18, SJW’s, PMD 16-18, Midges 16-20, Pheasant tails 14-18,  Flashback PT’s 14-18, Haresears 12-16, and Princes 10-16.

Prosser, Boca, and Stampede *** Prosser is filling nicely and the inlets are starting to fish well.  Boca is nearly full and fishing pretty good too.  With the easy access expect to see other anglers here.  If not, stop and fish.  Stampede is almost full as well and the fish seem to be moving up onto the flats chasing all sort of stuff thats washing up.  Time to bust out the intermediate or Type II sinking lines.

Middle Feather River*** The flows here are high and the temps are good.  Hatches of BWO’s 16-18, Little Yellow Stones12-14, and Caddis 14-16 are starting to come off.  Streamer action has been excellent as well.  Natural and white colors in size 8 were popular.  The milk shakes at the Gray Eagle Frosty are really good too!

Did I mention Ants!

See you on the water,
