Fly Fishing Report Oct 2, 2017

Welcome to Fall!  Crisp mornings, sunny days, and no crowds.  The best time to be in our area. The fishing has be really good the last couple weeks.  Look for the flows to get jacked around a bit as the reservoirs are being dropped for winter.  Still some bugs coming off throughout the day and be getting some good windows of Dry Fly fishing.  On the other hand, fishing big streamers below Boca inflow can be pretty good as well.

A bit of transition time here as I move up to the Klamath to guide Steelhead fishing.  Starting on the 8th of October I will be guiding on the Klamath River in Northern California and not available for trip in the Truckee Area again until November.  At this time I have open dates in Prime Time the week of the 23rd.  For reservations call 530-386-0525.

For Truckee Area and Pyramid Lake guiding during this time Call Jay Clark 530-414-1655.

Truckee River ***  Flows in Town are at 63cfs and at Boca 411cfs.  The water temp is cool in the morning and warming to 58-60 during the day.  One thing I have notice during this season is the water coming from the springs.  In many of the springs that feed the Truckee the flow is still going strong thanks to the big winter.  Some smaller MayFlys, Midges, and Caddis are going strong.  The October Caddis have also been hatching at fish are looking for them.   For Dries try Caddis 10-16, E/C Caddis 14/18, Stimulators 14, Madam X 10, October Caddis 10, Ants 14-18, Humpies 16, BWO’s 16-18, Rusty Spinner 16-18, and Midges 18-20. For nymphs Pats Rubber Legs 10, Caddis Pupa 12-18, Copper Johns 10-18, Micro May 16-20, SJW’s, Pheasant tails 14-18,  Flashback PT’s 14-18, Haresears 12-16, Caddis Poopah 14-16,  Birdsnest 14-18,and Princes 10-16.  For Streamers try Sculpzilla 4-8, Wooley buggers 6-10 and Muddler Minnow 6-10.

Little Truckee**-***  Flows are 169cfs and could go either way as they prep Stampede for winter.  Flows during the week last week were at 17cfs as they worked on the dam.   It has been pretty busy each time that I have gone out so look for a continued angler hatch until it snows.  It is small bug season on the LT.  For Dries try Parachute Adams 12-20, BWO’s 16-20, Quigley Cripples 14-18, Caddis 14-18, EC Caddis 14-18, Rusty Spinners 14-16, and Midges 16-22.  For nymphs try Rainbow Warrior 16-18, Copper Johns 14-20, Micro May 16-20, SJW’s, Midges 16-22, Pheasant tails 14-20,  Flashback PT’s 14-18, Haresears 14-18, and Princes 14-18.
