Tahoe/Truckee Fishing Report – June 25, 2012

Sorry for the delay in reporting but I have been working on this new website. The fishing has picked up in all locations and access is good compared to this time last year. Most of the bugs are hatching and the flows are good for now. It is still early in the season and those willing to move around can find willing fish all day.

Truckee River**-*** The Truckee has been on fire but, slowed a bit this week. Maybe the raising of the flows has something to do with it. The Drakes are out and about some mid-day and some during the last hour. Caddis and Little Yellow Stones have been getting attention from the fish. For dries: E/C Caddis 14-16, Elk Hair Caddis 14-16, Little Yellow Stones 14, Stimulators 10-14, Green Drakes 10, and Parachute Adams all sizes. For Nymphs: PT, 14-16, Haresear 14-16, Birdsnest 14-16, stone nymphs 10-16, Copper Johns 14-16. and Drake nymphs 10. Streamers has been getting some attention as well.

Little Truckee River** The flows on the LT are up and that usually makes for better fishing. Doesn’t seem as though there are as many fish in the river this year? They seemed to have wised up to the ant and PMD’s where all over the place and the fish weren’t interested. Oh well that’s fishing. For dries: Parachute Adams 18-22, BWO’s 18-22. PMD’s 14-16, and Ants 10-14. For nymphs: PT’s 16-20, Burks HBI 14-16, SJW 14, Micro May 16-20, and Copper Johns 16-20.

N. Yuba*** The N. Yuba is prime right now. There is a lot of construction on the way there which will add an hour to the travel time from Truckee. Hopefully, it will be done in the next week or two. Lots of bugs hatching all day here as well. Little Yellow Stones 14 seemed to be the most consistent followed my the Parachute Adams 12-14. Try Ants 10, Golden Stones 10, E/C Caddis 12-14, Elk Hair Caddis 12-14. Fish are looking up didn’t even bother nymphing.

Milton*** Managed to catch the Ants 10 prefect last week and had a ton of grabs and fish breaking off. Loads of fun. During the heat of the day pulled Damsel nymphs 10 on a sinking line kept us hooked up on fish. Plenty of midges as well but no love on them.

Local Reservoirs*** The inlet areas have been good. I have had the best Kokanee fishing on Stampede with a fly rod that I have ever had. Been couple of weeks though so that has probably slowed a bit. Haven’t hit the bass yet but, l’ll bet they are waiting. Try Streamers 8-10 along the shoreline for the cruising fish. Blood Midges 12-14 and Calibeatis 12-14 under an indicator will get some grabs as well.
