Truckee River Fly Fishing Report
The Truckee River is fishing pretty well consistent flows have helped. However, we are coming into the Dog Days of summer follow the thermometer and give the Trout some respect. Mornings are best while the water is still cool. Depending on overnight conditions the river is hitting 70 by 1pm and earlier along Glenshire Dr. Fishing below Boca inflow in the afternoons can be cooler due to the water releases from the dam but I have found it to be warm there some days as well. Time to go visit My Smallmouth Bass report from a few days ago.
Truckee River Conditions
The Flows are the Truckee River are 275cfs near Truckee and 498cfs at Boca. The water temps in the river above Boca are hitting 70 degrees by 1pm or sooner depending on overbite temps. Below Boca has been cooler but not far and not far down river. Lucky we have the flows we have had! Follow your thermometer and fish early. The big Stone Flies are hatching during the night and the fish are looking up for them.
Truckee River Tactics
The Truckee River Tactics haven’t changed much Dry or Dry Dropper. The big Stoneflies are out and about and the fish are looking for them. Clients have had many crushing grabs to Stonefly imitations since the last river report. Hanging a weighted nymph underneath helps to seal the deal if you get refused on the first pass. Haven’t busted out the indicator here for a while now but, I bet a Pats Rubber Leg will work really well. Be sure to fish the edge before you step in the water.
