Truckee Area Fly Fishing Report July 17, 2018

The Truckee Area Fly Fishing has been great!  Plenty of water, bugs, and fish to keep it exciting around the area.  The flows are good and temps are still great in the morning.  Handle your fish with care.

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

The Truckee River Dry Fly Action has continued to bet great.  Follow your thermometer and you find the fish.  The morning session has been stellar while the afternoon evenings have been a little warm.  Plenty of bugs hatching and noticed a switch to more caddis then last week.

Truckee River Conditions

Conditions are holding steady with flow in Truckee at 271cfs and at Boca flows are up a bit at 537cfs.  Water temps are 58-60 in the mornings and 66-68 by early evening.  Best to fish early.

Truckee River Tactics

When the Top Water flies are producing I find it hard to fish a nymph rig.  There is just something about a fish coming up to crush your Dry that I find satisfaction with.  Especially when they are big dumb flies!  Dry/Dropper technique and nymphing techniques are catching fish as well as the occasional streamer.  Fish early the handle the fish quickly and gently.
