Truckee Tahoe Early Summer Fly Fishing Report June 19th, 2026

It has been pretty darn good out there. Water has stabilized on the Truckee River and surrounding creeks. While the Little Truckee remains a little high, it's not unfishable, just bigger than normal for this time of year. We have been in a bit of a warm spell the last week, and that has certainly brought the water temps up in the afternoon on the Truckee River from Tahoe City to the Boca inflow. If you don't carry a thermometer, now is a good time. If you don't own one, they are for sale at Mtn. Hardware and TCO. If you don't know why it's important, maybe you should hire me?

Lots of bugs out and about, and the dry fly fishing has been pretty good. Nice hatches mid-morning and, depending on the weather, last into the afternoon. Dry/dropper has also been effective when the fishing is slow. Caddis, mayflies, and some stoneflies are making their appearance, and the fish have noticed. This is a good time to be here and have some fun fooling trout on top. Nymphing still works; just prefer the excitement of seeing the take once in a while.

For those looking to get on the water I have some availiblity durning the week. The next several weekends are full. Speaking of which the Women's Only Clinic is full. My next Clinic offering is the Trout Spey Clinic on July 19th and there are spots available. Click here for more information and to sign up for a clinic, or give me a call 530-386-0525

Truckee River Conditions

Truckee River is flowing at 266 cubic feet a minute above town and 696 cubic feet a minute at Boca. The water temps during the last few days has been 66-68 degrees in the late afternoon above Boca inflow and below Boca inflow it is a bit cooler 64-66 degrees in the late afternoon. Morning temps are good in both zones at around 58 degrees. Clairty is good.

Truckee River Tactics

Truckee River Tactics for these conditions is to flow the thermometer and fish the cooler water. The Dry Fly fishing is pretty great and going to continue into next month. With the warmer water target some heavier water that you would think. Dry/Dropper rigs are a solid choice covering two parts of the water column. Nymphing in all its forms is good if nothing is happening and an all day option throughout the system. For the streamer ethuasists get out early or stay a little later.

Truckee River Summary

The Truckee River is fishing quite good right now. It is Dry Fly Season but other tactics will also work. The flow have been stable for a while and the bugs are popping. Use your thermometer, watch the afternoon water temps, and go have some fun.

Other Truckee Area Venues

The Little Truckee is still a bit high and is very fishable. We have only been out there once since the last report and fould all of our fish nymphing. Both under and Indicator and Dry Fly. Smaller beatis nymphs were the preferred meal. Ther should be some mid-day hatches happening there. The smaller creeks are in good shape as well with Caddis, Mayflies, and Ants on the menu. Over on the reservoirs Miltons is fishing really well. Prosser and Stampede should have an excellent Smallmouth bite with the recent warm weather. There are some options if you find the Truckee to be tough and the LT too crowded.
