It is pretty much groundhog day for Fly Fishing around here. Not to many changes to report. The Truckee has still got good flow as of this writing and continues to fish pretty well. The bugs are diffinately smaller and the fish are still looking up for these little morsels and some big ones too! Good presentation is key. A little longer leader and smaller tippet will work wonders on the water. The Midges are popping in the morning with some smaller Beatis and the occasional Caddis fluttering around. It is still warm and fishing past noon on the Truckee is still putting the fish at rish. Although we did have a nice dip in temps at the end of last week. When the overnite lows are below 50 degree air temps the Truckee in the upper reaches will stay cooler into the afternoon. As I have mentioned in the last report follow your thermometer to find the cooler water. Here is a link to the "Hoot Owl" guide. Give the fish a break in this warmer time of the summer.
Since the water has dropped on the Little Truckee I haven't bothered to pay it a visit. But it should be good water temp wise for all day fishing. Check the last report for technique and bug selection.

Truckee River Conditions
Truckee River is flowing at 282 cubic feet a second above Truckee and 488 cubic feet a second at Boca Bridge. Again this week, the water temps during the last few days have been 67-68 degrees by noon above Boca inflow. Below Boca inflow it is a bit cooler with 67 degrees at around 4pm. The morning temps are good and vary by section so use your thermometer. River water clairtiy is good.
Truckee River Tactics
Truckee River tactics for these conditions is to fish the cooler water and time of day. The dry fly fishing is good with the fish looking up. Dry/dropper rigs are also a solid choice. It maybe time to downsize the tippet and bug size. Again, for the streamer enthusiasts get out early.
