This report will focus on the Truckee and Little Truckee Rivers. Much like the last report the conditions are above average for this time of year. We have had some rain earlier this week and some last week. The rain has only added minimal flow to the rivers and creeks. The water is still cold. And, looking a head, this is setting us up nicely for the fall. The Truckee given the flow is still two different rivers above and below Boca. Great conditions for dry and dry/dropper fishing above Boca and better for deeper nymphing and streamers below. Fishing has been solid in both zones.
Over on the Little Truckee River thing are pretty much status quo here. Lots of anglers make for some pretty smart fish. Going to have to adjust tactics to have success here. The flows have dropped slightly but still super for August. Definitely an option to challenge yourself with.
Finally, had a chance to make it out to Milton Reservoir. Milton was very typical for August. The water has dropped a couple feet since the last time I was there. The fish act like they have see some angling pressure but we still managed to catch our share on various dries and tiny midges hanging underneath. Had to move around a lot to keep the fish biting as they tend to shut down in a spot after a couple are caught. Milton is still a quiet and beautiful spot to spend the day.
Truckee River Conditions
Truckee River flows are currently 103cfs in town and 503cfs at Boca. Water temps are in the low 60's mid-afternoon. Clarity is great.
Truckee River Tactics
Truckee River tactics very by the section that your in. From Tahoe to Boca dry and dry/dropper techniques will work the best given the flows. There are some spots that will be better for nymphing. Below Boca where flows pick up all techniques are in play but if the fish aren't looking up then down and dirty is the way to go. Lots of options down there. There is quite a crop of grass hoppers in certain areas and they may come into play as the weather warms up.

Truckee River Summay
The Truckee River is fishing good right now. Conditions are great throughout the system. Adjust your technique for above or below Boca. Look for the Hopper bite to pick up soon. Lots of Grasshoppers out there.
Little Truckee River Conditions
The Little Truckee River is 113cfs. The water temps are fine mid-fifties durning the day and clarity is good here too.
Little Truckee River Tactics
The Little Truckee River Tactics have not changed much since the last report. Stealth time! Lengthen the leader, drop tippet size, use smaller bugs, and wear drab color clothing. There are decent mid-day hatches here and other anglers now that as well. Be nice and prepare to wait your turn on certain runs. The fish are picky. Very cool when you finally hook one after a dozen fly changes.
