This report will cover the Truckee River and surrounding area. The weather this week has kept the water temps in check. The rain from daily thunderstorms has settled the dust nicely. I have recieved half inch of rain at my house since Monday. Monday afternoon's storm caused the Truckee River to get alittle muddy but it was clear enought to fish on Tuesday morning. All the water coming out of Lake Tahoe helped to clear the river. I noticed a spike in the guage for the Little Truckee, as well, but did not encounter any tubid water out there. The bug hatches have lightened up and all downsized so keep that in mind if you're trying to match the hatch. Caddis, mayflies, stoneflies and midges are still around. Oh, despite not seeing any risers we are still moving plenty of fish to the dry. Recently my client broke off a fat rainbow from the shock of seeing it come from just under his feet to eat the dry after nymphing in the same zone for awhile. Sometimes you gotta change it up and believe.
Looking ahead to the Labor Day weekend it looks to be excellent weather for fishing. Sunny but not too hot. And we have better than average flows for this time of year. The reservoirs should be fishing well for Smallmouth Bass. The inlets could have some cruising trout around as well. And the rain certainly has been a boost for the smaller creeks around the area to cool them down. Looks to be plenty of oppertunity and excellent conditions to wet a line this Labor Day weekend and beyond. It is shaping up to be an excellent fall.

Truckee River Conditions
Truckee River flows are currently 288 cubic feet per second above town, and below Boca inflow they are 467 cubic feet per second. Water temps are 64-65 degrees mid-day. Water clairity is slightly turbid from the recent thunderstorms. Watch the thermometer in the late afternoons because as the sun comes out this week water temps will move up.
Truckee River Techniques
Truckee River lends itself to many techniques. Nymphing is going to be the most productive. Fishing with a dry or dry/dropper rig works well in the shallower water. And prospecting with a big streamer can get you that fish of a lifetime here. Given the water temps the fish are holding in the pocket water and faster runs more than a couple feet deep.

Little Truckee River Conditions
The Little Truckee flows are currently 53cfs. Water temps were 54-56 degrees mid-day. Clarity is very good.
Little Truckee River Techniques
Little Truckee River, like I mentioned in my last report, is in its technical mode. With the fishing pressure and the drop in water the fish have gotten more finicky. It is time to downsize tippet, drop a hook size or two, and use some stealth when approaching the runs. The thunderstorms and overcast skies should help a bit to spark some intenese hatches and some fish my drop their guard for a bit.
