Truckee Tahoe Fly Fishing Report May 11th, 2022

This report will focus on the Little Truckee River. Over the last week I have spent some time on the Little Truckee. The flows are up and the water is a little off color but not enough to bother the fish. There is a nice mid-day Mayfly hatch of BWO's and March Browns with some of the fish are looking up during this time. Nymphing has been the ticket here with small beatis patterns have getting the most love. The weather looks to be getting nice again by the weekend. It was great to get some more water in the Truckee watershed. It looks as though there are still a far amount of fish trying to spawn here. Give them a break to do their thing and make more fish.

Little Truckee River Conditions

The Little Truckee River Flows are 193cfs and the water is a little turbid but very fishable. The water temps in the Mid-day are 46-48 degrees.

Little Truckee River Tactics

The Little Truckee River is giving you some choice of Tactics, changing throughout the day is key. Start with nymphing first and when the hatch starts try dries. Or combine the two with a Dry/Dopper rig. When Nymphing with or without an indicator keep it short and tight. The fish are not banging the hell out of the flies. Takes have been subtle. The fish have been keying on smaller Beatis subsurface and on top. There is a mid-day hatch and fish are taking flies on the surface for a while. If you are not getting the grabs change it up or change spots. A Dry/Dropper rig is a good choice for the shallower riffles.
