Truckee Tahoe Fly Fishing Report September 8, 2023

This report will concentrate on the Truckee and Little Truckee Rivers. It is beginning to be a little like groundhog day around here. Conditions around here are pretty much the same since the last two reports and I mean that in a good way. The waters temps are cool and flows are good which is something we haven't had around here for a few seasons. With that said I feel we are setup very well for some great fall fishing. Last weekends' rain settled the dust and gave everything a little boost. The fishing has been excellent. It is not to late to get a trip in with me. I have open dates coming up here in September and October. Before we know it Ski Season with be here and I will be skiing.

Truckee River Conditions

Truckee River Flows are 82cfs in town and 498cfs below Boca. Water temps are good and the clarity is super as well.

Truckee River Tactics

Truckee River Tactics are similar to my last report. The bugs have gotten smaller. The river is basically two different rivers above and below Boca. Above Boca dry/dropper techniques will be your Best Choice. Below Boca all techniques are in play. There are many different water types and options to fish different techniques down there.

Truckee River Summary

The Truckee River is fishing great throughout the system. Use technique appropriate for the water type and have fun!

Little Truckee River Conditions

Little Truckee flows are 108cfs and the water temps are good. Clarity is good as well.

Little Truckee River Tactics

The Little Truckee River Tactics have not changed much since the last report except for maybe less people. I have received good reports from the LT. Lengthen the leader, drop tippet size, use smaller bugs, and wear drab color clothing. There are decent mid-day hatches here. The fish are finicky but catchable. Gotta put the time in.
