Truckee Tahoe Area Fly Fishing Report June 13th, 2019

This report will focus on the #Truckee and #LittleTruckee Rivers. Day seven of sun and warmth! Things are slowly starting to come around especially in the the water temps department. The water is getting warmer and this means the bugs and the fish will be getting more active. The Big #Ants started coming off last week and got a few fish looking up. Fish gotta eat and you gotta have a line in the water to catch'em.

If numbers are you thing then the #Lakes #Stillwaters are where it is at right now. They are warming nicely and fish are digging it. Check out my report here. https://www.flyfishingtruckee-tahoe.com/fishing-report/truckee-tahoe-area-fly-fishing-report-may-31st-2019

Truckee River Conditions

The Truckee River flows are 651cfs out of #LakeTahoe, 1,170cfs near Truckee, and 2,020cfs at #Boca. The water up to Squaw Creek is gin clear then picks up some turbidity as the creeks come in. Still very fishable with the afternoon temp at 54 degrees.

Truckee River Tactics

The Truckee River Tactics are starting to change a bit. There has been a lot of #Mayfly activity and #Ants on the surface. I have seen a few fish actively taking dries but not in a position to tell the exactly which one. March Browns, Mahogany Duns, Little Yellow Stones, and Blue Winged Olives are out in force. Top water is not high probability fishing right now but, keep your eye out on the slow edges and foam lines for the opportunity. Nymphing and Streamers are still the ticket for steady success. Target the deep pools and slower water methodically it will pay off. Time to bring 3 rods!

Truckee River Suggested Flies

For Dry Flies try Stimulator 6-12, Cubby Chernoble 6-8, Foam Ant 6-8, Parachute Adams 12-16, Red Quill 12-14, Grey Drake 12-14, Compara Dun 12-14 and Royal Wulff 10-12 . For nymphs try attractor patterns and bugs on the bigger side: Pats Rubber Legs 6-10, Twenty Incher 8-10, Peacock Stones 6-8, Soft Hackles 12-14, Green Drake nymph 8-10, Prince Nymphs 8-10, Burk's Bottom roller 10-12, Flashback Pheasant Tail 14-18, SJW, Haresear 10-14, Copper Johns 12-14, and Mercer's Poxyback Golden Stone 8-10. For Streamers try Sculpzilla 8-4, Woolley Buggers 6-8, and Sparkle Minnows 4.

Truckee River Summary

The sun is out, the water temps are up, and the Bugs are hatching. Nymphing and Streamers are still the best bet. However, fish have been looking up and feeding on top. Looking in the slower water and foam lines.

Little Truckee River Conditions

The #LittleTruckee flows have been up and down and currently 508cfs and the water temps are in the high 40's. The water is clear. Bring the Bug Spray! Mosquitos are out and so are the anglers. Expect to see people on this ditch.

Little Truckee River Tactics

The Little Truckee is at a high but fishable flow. The bugs should be starting to pop here as they are on the Truckee. The Mosquitos have. It is a two rod time of the year with one rod strung for Nymphing and the other strung for Dries. #Nymphing is the goto method while #topwater action may or may not happen each day. The fish can't make up there minds so give them choices.

Little Truckee River Suggested Flies

Try some big Black Cubby Chernoble 6-8 or Foam Ant 6-8 LT fish like ants. For smaller Dries try Parachute Adams 16-20, Caddis 16-18, E/C Caddis 16-18, PMD 14-16, Griffiths Gnat 16-10, Quigley Cripple 16-18, Royal Wluff 10-14, Thorax Dun 14-16, and Compara Dun 14-16. For nymphs try Micro May 16-18, Soft hackles 14-18, Pheasant Tail 16-18, Flashback PT 16-18, Juju beatis 16-18, SJW, Copper Johns 14-18, Zebra Midge 18-20, RS2 16-18, WD-40 16-18, Green Drake 8-10 and HBI 14-16.

Little Truckee River Summary

The Little Truckee River is shaping up nicely. Expect to work for your fish here with Nymphing being the primary tactic. Dries are a day to day event. Bring the Bug Spray!
