Welcome to the Fly Fishing Report. This report will cover the Truckee and Little Truckee Rivers and some of the changes that are going on. The flows have been lowered coming out of Lake Tahoe and have affected the upper river down to Boca inflow. As I am wrighting this it has been raining pretty good for several hours and we are just over an inch of rain today on my rain gauge. That is the biggest storm of the fall and will be adding to the flows in the rivers and creeks of the Truckee Tahoe area for a day or so. The next big adjustment to the flows on the Truckee will be when they start to dump Donner Lake. An added plus for the big river. Out on the LT the Kokanee have started there spawning push and with that some nice fish are coming up out of Boca. The Browns has also started to make spawning runs and we have seen a few that chased our streamers but we didn't connect. So Close! It has really been a great fall around here for fly fishing.

Truckee River Conditions
Truckee River flows are currently 77cubic feet a second out of Lake Tahoe, 90 cubic feet per second above town, and below Boca inflow they are 473 cubic feet per second. Water temps are 58-60 degrees mid-day. Water clairity has been gin clear but the rain may change the clairity for a day or so.
Truckee River Techniques
Truckee River Techniques depend on where your are fishing. Down below Boca Nymphing is still going to be the most productive. And, there is plenty of water to huck big Streamers. Above Boca a dry/dropper rig makes more sense. It is just not that deep in this area right now. And even a Dryfly in the upper section will get the fish to move. There are some nice BWO's popping especially on the overcast days.. The clairity in the upper river is really quite good. The clairity combined with the drop in flows has made the fish a little spooky. Smaller tippet and longer leaders will help along with a quieter approach to the water for what ever style of fly fishing you choose.

Little Truckee River Conditions
The Little Truckee flows are currently 57cfs. Water temps are good and the clarity is very good.
Little Truckee River Techniques
Little Truckee River has alot going on right now. The Kokanee and Browns have started there spawning runs and that means that some nice rainbows will come up out of the lake as well to get in on those last juicy meals before winter sets in. The overcast weather has produced some nice BWO hatches out here as well. Dries and Dry/Droppers are a good option. Longer leaders, smaller flies, and finer tippet will help to dupe those selective eaters. Streamers could be a good choice in the inlet area. Be aware it is still busy with fisherman at times.
