Summer has arrived and it is an amazing time to be here fishing in the mountains. For the time being the water seems to have stablized on the Truckee in the upper sections. And on the lower section the flows have dropped to a more wadeable stage. The same can be said for the Little Truckee. The fishing is great! Many options to fit what every style of fly fishing you're into. Trout and Bass are all in play. Thermometers are going to play a big part of your choice in where to go. The weather (airtemps) warmed up quite a bit this last weekend and so did the water. Cool nights are always good to keep the temps in check but the water on the Truckee has warmed up. Fish like water temps between 55 and 65 degrees. I feel we are going to be entering Hoot Owl Policy soon on the Truckee River if the weather continues to stay warm. Here is a link to an article on the State's Hoot Owl Policy. Fish early if you can. Over on the Little Truckee that is not a concern because it's a cool tailwater and fish like cool water.
Flows are prefect for the Trout Spey rod. I have a clinic coming up on July 19th (this weekend). Limited spots so sign up soon. Check out the details in the link below.

Truckee River Conditions
Truckee River flows are currently 335 cubic feet per second above town, and below Boca inflow they are 617 cubic feet per second. Water temps are 64-65 degrees mid-day. Water clairity is good.
Truckee River Techniques
Truckee River techniques would be to get out and fish while the fishin' is good. Dries, dry/dropper, nymphing any style, and streamers are all producing fish at various times. The fish seemed to have settled into the new flow regime. Bugs are still coming off but not as heavy. Given the flows, nymphing is still a strong option throughout the day. Dries have been good early and late in the day. Throwing smaller streamers has been getting some fish as well.

Truckee River Summary
The Truckee River flows have stablized and the fish are settled in. The flows in the upper river and the lower river are great for wade fishing. The afternoon evening water temps are getting up there so use the thermometer. Fish whatever techniques you want. They all are working.
Little Truckee River Conditions
The Little Truckee flows are currently 152cfs. And have been for several days. Check flows before heading out there. Water temps were 52-54 degrees mid-day. Clarity is good.
Little Truckee River Techniques
Little Truckee River Technique for this week is Dry Fly! Green Drakes and PMD's are popping and the fish are looking up. It has been very good but as the crowds find out the fish will get smarter. But for now big dries are the ticket. Dry/dropper inbetween the hatches.
