There has been a bit of change since my last report. Leave it to Covid-19 and major storm to disrupt things a bit up here. But, hey that's life in the mountains wait 15 minutes and it will change. I am not working at Alpine much because we are closed and I typically don't guide too much in March anyway. This is the time I get out and fish or get after the spring corn skiing. So, for you that are practicing #socialdistancing through #Flyfishing this report is for you. At this time I am sticking to my scheduled programing at this time and was planning on adding a nymphing clinic in May. Stayed tuned.
Truckee River Conditions
The Truckee River in Town in at 211cfs and at Boca it is 571cfs. Both flows are up quite a bit since my last report . The water is clear and the afternoon temp was 42 degrees. Since we have had about 5 feet of snow access is limited and a 4x4 is a good idea.
Truckee River Tactics
Tactics for the Truckee River has changed a bit from our early spring like weather back to winter conditions. Nymphing is going to be the ticket. However, the new snow lets you really see what is hatching and there maybe some dry fly opportunities with bigger bugs.
Truckee River Suggested Flies
Check out the photos and use your favorite patterns to mimic the BWO's 16, Stones 10, and March Browns 12 that were crawling all over the bank.
Truckee River Summary
The Fly Fishing has slowed a bit from our spring like February. The bugs are out there and the fish gotta eat. What a Great way to blow off a little stress in our current situation. Take care, wash your hands, and save me some TP!
